Entering and Exiting the Dog Park:

  • Dog must be leashed outside of the fenced area.
  • Park users and dog owners must sign-in and sign-out at the service center each visit.

Entering:

  • Entry to paddock is through the park entrance door located inside the service center. Do not open park entrance door if paddock is occupied or a gate is open.

  • Only one family at a time is permitted in the paddock area.

  • Once the paddock area is empty and gates are closed and latched, you can enter the paddock. Open the park gate and walk into one of the three off-leash areas closing and latching the gate behind you.

  • There is ample space to play, so please move your dog away from the paddock area. This allows other dogs entering the park a chance to get acclimated.

  • Carry a leash for each dog into the park. This is necessary if you need to remove your dog in an emergency situation.

Exiting:

  • To exit the park, approach the paddock. If the paddock is unoccupied and the service door is closed, enter the paddock closing and latching the gate behind you.
  • Leash your dog and enter the service center. Remember to sign-out before leaving the park.

 Prevention:

4Ps Warning Signs

PREVENT an accident before it happens!

Posture:  A dog's body language can communicate fear, hostility or submission.

Packing More than 4 or 5 dogs packed together can lead to trouble. Break it up by leading your dog to other places in the park.

Possession It may be you, a ball or a treat, but most dogs will protect what is theirs.

Provoking If your dog is continuously annoying another dog or dogs or provoking attention, remove your dog.

  Children:

Reasons why it isn't safe for children to be in the dog park:

  • Howlabaloo Dog Park is just that, a park for dogs.
  • Supervising a child and dog, and being aware of the other dogs at the same time can be challenging. This potentially puts everyone at risk.
  • Children and people with low immunity are more susceptible to contracting intestinal worms and other infections from touching grass where urine and feces have been present.
  • Not every dog has been socialized with children. All dogs have the potential to bite.
  • Some dogs are as big as or larger than children. Sometimes a child's face is at the height of a dog's face. In a dog's world, direct face and eye contact is seen as a confrontation.
  • Children or other small dogs could be mistaken for small prey.
  • A herding dog may instinctively try to herd your child, you, or another dog by small nips to the back of the legs.
  • Your dog or other dogs may become territorial over your child. This can cause a fight that could injure or scare your child.
  • Even if a dog is friendly, when dogs play, they naturally mouth, run, and may even body slam. Even a friendly dog may knock you down if they are running and playing.
  • A dog fight could occur which could put everyone, especially your child, in a dangerous situation.

Park Manners:

  • Read and obey all rules.
  • Be the leader.
  • Be courteous of others.
  • Please monitor your dogs play behavior. Some dog behavior is considered acceptable to some but not to all. Learn what is and what is not appropriate play behavior.
  • Dogs that overly assertive, unruly, under socialized, fearful or shy should first consult your veterinarian and seek training before using the dog park.
  • Dogs off-leash are to be called away from leashed dogs.
  • Do not let your dog chase people, wildlife, charge the fence or other dogs.
  • Dogs with "special personalities" that may not play well with others in the park may reserve hourly private time in the 4 acre fenced "Blowout" area.
  • Please do not stand or play near the paddock and gates.
  • Gates are to remain closed at all times. Please close and latch gates securely behind you when entering and exiting the park.
  • Please do not hang items on the fence.

Emergency Procedures:

  • Pennsylvania State Law requires all dog bites to be reported to the Erie County Health Department at 814.451.6700. Bites should also be reported to the Dog Park Manager at 814.734.1161.
  • In the event of a dog fight or other incident, control your dog and remove it to a neutral area.
  • Render first aid as necessary for minor injuries as appropriate and seek medical attention.
  • Call 911 in the case of severe injuries.
  • Provide assistance to dog owners and their dogs where appropriate using sound judgment in all cases to prevent further injuries to others and yourself. Do not place yourself in a potentially dangerous situation.
  • Exchange information with all parties involved and Howlabaloo Dog Park management, including name, address, phone numbers, and vaccination records. Provide necessary information for local veterinarians if requested.
  • Most importantly, remain calm and objective. Getting upset will only add to the emotions of all both human and canine.

Respect Neighbors:

  • Neither humans nor their dogs are allowed to trespass on neighboring properties.
  • Please observe Lay Road speed limit at 35. Drive safely and remember, "Dogs at Play."
